  • What quality of silk do you use?
We use the highest grade silk possible. Our Mulberry silk is 100% pure, organic, and has a luxurious, durable 25 momme weight. It is simply the best silk possible for the skin and is completely free of toxins and allergens.
  • What is momme (“MOM-me”) weight in silk fabric?
While thread count is used to measure quality in cotton fabric, momme weight is a system used to measure the quality of silk fabric. Momme weight describes the weight of 100 yards of silk, 45 inches wide, in pounds. For example, a silk fabric has a weight of 8 mm if 100 yards of a 45 inch wide bolt weighs 8 pounds. Silk generally falls into a range of 6 momme on the lower side to a maximum weight of 30 momme. Silk of 19 momme or above is considered to be high-end. The higher the momme weight is, the more dense and opaque the silk. We use a very high quality 25 mm weight that is superior to industry standards for bedding and accessories.
  • What is so special about Mulberry silk?
Mulberry silk is of superior quality because Mulberry silkworms that are fed on a diet of 100% fresh Mulberry leaves produce silk filaments that are stronger, longer, and shinier than other types of silk. These filaments are then reeled and re-reeled together to produce high quality silk threads of varying thickness that are naturally pure white, strong, shiny, and take well to coloured dies. Mulberry silk is primarily cultivated in China, India, and Japan.
  • Are your products non-toxic and dermatologically tested?
Our 100% pure and organic silk products are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified not to contain any toxic ingredients, and have also been dermatologically tested to be gentle and safe.
  • What is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®?
The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is a global testing and accreditation program that successfully sets the standards for the screening of harmful substances in consumer textiles. Textiles can only be certified if all components in their manufacture meet the required standards.
  • How are your silk pillowcases constructed?
Our high-quality, organic Mulberry silk pillowcases have double-stitched seams and a deep pocket closure. We make doublesided, 100% silk pillowcases and never use blended fabrics to cut costs. Many less expensive pillowcases use single stitch seams, have a pocket enclosure with little to no overlap, use silk on only one side of the pillow, or use silk blend fabrics such as satin.
  • What is the difference between silk and satin?
Satin refers to a type of weave rather than to a specific fabric. It is usually produced from synthetic fibres or is a silk blend fabric that does not possess the full range of the beneficial attributes of silk. Silk is higher quality, is stronger and more shimmery than satin, and is harder to produce. A satin pillowcase would generally refer to a synthetic pillowcase made from polyester, a petroleum derived material, that feels soft to the touch, but does not hold up over the course of the night as it is thin, rough, and does not breathe properly causing heat, moisture, and bacterial buildup.
  • What is the difference between Mulberry silk and Egyptian cotton bedding?
High thread count Egyptian cotton and Mulberry silk are both much more luxurious than traditional cotton or linen bedding. While fine Egyptian cotton is less expensive than Mulberry silk, silk offers many more benefits. Silk is a better insulator than cotton and therefore keeps you cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Silk also wicks moisture away from your body in a much more effective way with respect to cotton. While cotton can absorb some sweat over the course of the night, silk has a hollow structure and can absorb more moisture. Silk is smooth, soft, light, and slippery to the touch while cotton is more course, rough, and does not allow the skin to slip across its surface. In addition, silk fibre is naturally hypo-allergenic because it evolved to protect the silkworm from bacteria, fungi, mould, and other allergens (such as dust mites) while inside the cocoon. Cotton fibre, on the other hand, must be treated before it can be woven into thread and is not hypo-allergenic. Traditional cotton is also a very pesticide-intensive crop that degrades our environment.
